The Best Skin Care Routine For Every Age
PSA: Your skin care routine should not be the same in your 20s as it is in your 40s. Just as you do, your skin evolves and changes over the years, and the products you use should as well.
Here’s our guide to the best skin care routine at every age.
In your 20s: it’s all about prevention
You are young, and all of your skin’s natural processes (production of collagen, production of sebum, cellular turnover) are working perfectly. The goal is to keep breakouts at bay, and to prevent. And remember, if you’re old enough to drink, you’re old enough for a good eye cream!

Ingredients to look for: enzymes (we love papain) to keep your pores clean, plant-based antioxidants, vitamin E.
In your 30s: your skin is starting to change
It’s in your 30s that you will most likely see your first age spots and fine lines appear… so it’s time to add in a treatment serum morning and evening. Look for hyaluronic acid and pigment perfecting ingredients. We recommend adding our Pigment serum under your moisturizer morning and evening.
It will also be in your 30s that you may start to see changes in your body. First, your neck and décolleté… this is the time to notice that your face ends not at your jawline, but at your décolleté line. Add a neck treatment once per day, such as our Firming Gel For Neck And Bust. And because your hands are your second face, don’t forget to apply any leftover facial product on the back of your hands, and look for a hand cream with anti-aging properties (such as our Dry Skin Balm).
In your 40s: it’s time to bring in the big guns
In your 40s, all of those systems that worked so effectively in your 20s start to become lazy. Collagen production slows down and you see wrinkles. Cellular turnover slows down and you see dull skin. Sebum production slows down and your skin feels dryer. It’s time for treatment, and hydration.
Add a retinol serum to your evening routine. (To learn more about retinol click here). This is the gold standard ingredient to stimulate collagen production and minimize the look of wrinkles.
Add an effective exfoliator once to twice per week if you do not already use one. Our Gentle Refining Scrub features dual exfoliation technology – physical and enzymatic – for immediately brighter skin. Plus, exfoliation will make all of your other products work better (as they can penetrate more deeply).
Switch to a heavier moisturizer, in particular for evening time (may we recommend our Kantic+ Nourishing Cream). You may also want to add a weekly hydration treatment such as our Kantic Brightening Moisture Mask. This is particularly helpful as you incorporate retinol in your routine, because this will make your skin feel dryer before it feels better (that’s how retinol works).
In your 50s and beyond: hydration & nourishment are the name of the game
If you have been taking care of your skin since your twenties, you are reaping the benefits now. Still, you will notice additional dryness and a “thinning out” of the skin (greater loss of collagen and elastin) as well as more visible fine lines and wrinkles. At this stage of your life, this is what your skin care regimen should look like (yes… that may seem like a lot - but you deserve it:
